Hear that, congressional Republicans? It’s the sound of the 2016 elections circling the drain.

BoehnerBallI just contacted the office of my congressional representative, Marsha Blackburn, and offered up a strongly worded, yet polite, objection to Congress passing any version of the disastrous ObamaTrade bill that may be voted on in the House as early as tomorrow (Friday).

I told the very nice woman who answered the phone how disheartening it is to hear Paul Ryan say of the bill, “It’ll be declassified and made available to the public after it’s passed.” Does that sound familiar?┬áSort of like Nancy Pelosi saying, “That’s why we have to pass it (Obamacare), so you can find out what’s in it.”

I asked why it’s so essential that we pass any sort of trade bill in the next year and a half. Why not wait until we have a president who at least has not overtly, intentionally worked to dismantle the greatest country in the history of the world? Nothing I’ve seen about the proposed trade bill is good for America . . . nothing. It diminishes our national sovereignty and gives Obama even more latitude to violate our immigration laws, among many other flaws (assuming what I’ve heard is true).

I also said I was beyond tired of having the John Boehners and Paul Ryans of the world standing so proudly and, in essence, saying, “We’re working hard to get the votes for you, Mr. President. We think we can get it done for you.” When was the last time they said, “We’re doing everything we can to stop this madman in the White House. And now that the American people have entrusted us with BOTH houses of Congress, we have the votes to stop his lawless behavior . . . and that’s just what we’ll do. We’re not going to let the American people down . . . no matter how many times the President does.” Wouldn’t that be nice to hear . . . just occasionally?

Oh, wait . . . we DO hear that from the GOP . . . every campaign season, as they perform their traditional role as Lucy holding the Reagan Republican Values football while conservative voters eagerly rush to put the ball in play. And we all know what Lucy does then, don’t we? Shame on John Boehner, Paul Ryan and the other GOP cowards who promise conservative governance and then repeatedly yank that promise away from voters who trusted them.
